Just a Few Last Thoughts

This isn't an article. Just a few last thoughts: Damn, I was wrong! I thought there would probably be one more step to the evolution of putting a racist into the White House. Apparently America is already locked and loaded and headed further down the path of hatred than I thought. This makes me sad. Those who try to claim, that they got up after the election just like they did before the election and nothing in their lives had changed, need to shut the hell up! Before the election, disrespecting Women, Blacks, Natives Indians, Asians, Mexicans, and yes Poor Whites and Gays wasn't official. However, it has now become a trait and has reached the top level of the White House. That means many Americans endorse this type of thinking! I remember calling out a student who, because of his bad grades became ineligible to play on his school's basketball team. He was the star of the team. He told me that the teacher gave him a "F". I asked him, "Do you earn an "A" but the teacher gave you a "F" anyway?" "No," he said. Then I asked, "Do you earn a "B" but the teacher gave you an "F" anyway?" "No," he said again. "Do you earn a "C" but the teacher gave you an "F" anyway?" It took a second but he finally understood where I was going. He had let his team down because he didn't do his homework. He believed that being the star of the team, the school would let him slide. To the school's credit they didn't. Yet, he's was mad at the school. He even had some of the other students mad at the school. I pointed out to him that it was possibly his fault that the team now had a couple losses in a row, after being unbeaten. The other students in the room began to realize that the teacher did give the player the bad grade. He earned his bad grade. Making the teacher his scapegoat put the blame on someone else. The students realized they'd allowed someone else to connect the dots and they were led to some stinkin' thinkin'. Apparently I was wrong again. As long as one is part of an angry majority, it is totally okay to blame others for ones' own failures in life. I've driven past workers in the fields many times during the summers. In those fields, under the hot sun, were many of my Mexican students' parents and even some of my Mexican students themselves. I'm sure somewhere in those fields there was a White person or two. However, in a state that's 87% White, they're not represented in those fields at the high percentage they exist in this state. Yet, many in this state have allowed someone else to connect their mental dots and they truly believe those people working in those fields, legal Mexican-American citizens or illegal immigrants are stealing their jobs. Those who want followers rely on the disenchanted and give them a reason to follow. Then they connect the dots with lies. Women and people of color, especially Black people have been dealing with being the scapegoat for generations. I know there are those who think their lives aren't what they should be and they are somehow deserve and are owed more. Many believe that somehow America is now gonna become great again and they'll get what they deserve. And to be honest, I know most of these people are White. I feel sorry for them because they have been taught to lash out at the wrong people. People of color in this country have been feeling what angry White folks are feeling, for hundreds of years. We've come to understand that only color that truly separates us is green. And that separation is done on purpose, to divide the haves from the have nots. America has always been a work in progress. America has, is and should always be in a state of progression. When America began to grow she should have learned not to be selfish. And as America grew even older she should have learned to share with others. She should had have learned that sharing with others would allow everyone to progress. She should have learned that taking land and tradition from those who were here first was not and is not progression. America should have learned that an earned purple heart should mean, no government red tape. America didn't learn any of those things. Rome fell because it didn't learn any of those things. Nazi Germany fell because it didn't learn any of those things. It's not too late for America. We just have to stop allowing our dots to lead us down rabbit holes that stop our progress. A hating mentality NEVER leads to the path of equal progress for everyone. Blaming others because their skin and gender are different won't make life better for anyone. When a country is built on lies, which is like a foundation of sand, it will soon be washed away. America, Black people are not your problem. Women are not your problem. Mexicans are not your problem. Native Indians are not your problem. Asian people are not your problem. Poor White people are not your problem. Gay people are not your problem. America, your problem is that you want to be great but not be grateful or giving. You would rather believe and live a lie than learn the truth about yourself. Grow the hell up! Because I love America's potential, I will continue to help educate poor kids from all races. Because I'm a Black American, I will continue to dream of a day when the color of my skin is just the color of my skin. I will dream even though I'm reminded everyday "Black Skin Does Matter".
