A Better Understanding of Political Problems By Keith L. Anderson The type of questioning and disrespect Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson has endured from some of the shadiest characters in the Republican Party, is without a doubt an accurate gage, showing Americans just how low our political leaders will stoop. Lindsey Graham grilled her about the Kavanauge hearings of 2018. Sen Dick Durbin had to tell him, that she had nothing to do with those hearings. What was Graham’s response? He actually said, “No, but I'm asking her about how she may feel about what y'all did." How petty is that? Ted Cruz held up a book and asked Ketanji Brown Jackson, “Do you believe babies are racists?” He keeps showing how much he doesn’t know about Critical Race Theory. If one is to believe Josh Hawley’s misleading insinuations and allocations, Ketanji Brown Jackson has a history of giving light sentences to child porn offenders. The truth of the matter is her sentencing was lighter than guidelines suggests, but no more than other judges. “Judge Jackson's sentencing record in federal child porn cases, it looks pretty mainstream," says Doug Berman, a leading expert on sentencing law and policy at The Ohio State University School of Law. Putting judges on high courts, especially the Supreme Court, should mean the same to all Americans. It should mean we want the most qualified, legal minds, making our country’s important legal decisions. The importance of these judges should cross party lines. Graham voted for Ketanji Brown Jackson to be a judge on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Because the political climate has changed, it appears he now sees her has someone he can’t support. To hell with her qualifications. Cruz, hasn’t made a good decision about anything in years. This is the same guy who allowed Trump to call his wife ugly and accuse his father of being a murderer. What was his response? He kissed up to Trump so much that his lips turned orange. As far as Hawley, isn’t this the same guy who gave the Jan. 6th Rioters of America’s House a fist pump approval? It’s difficult watching our country get run to the ground by people, who like most of us, are flawed. The difference between them and us is they see their flaws as badges of some kind of mis-guided honor. Watching them, without honor put on such a hideous performance, helps me to better understand America’s political problems.
